1.) *To hear #1, listen to this week’s episode!*
A secret project has been brewing in Los Angeles over the past few months, and none of us knew it was happening. It appears that Blizzard has built, or purchased a building that will become the first US based Blizzard Arena. This arena will host the October 7-8 Overwatch Contenders Season One Playoffs. We can’t wait to see pictures of this place and possibly check it out this coming November!
It was announced at BlizzCon 2016, and we are now seeing major advancements in the rate in which we may see Google Deepmind AI taking on a StarCraft player. It was predicted that it would be about 5-10 years before this would happen, but with recent updates it sounds like that time may be getting cut short. And thats exciting for gamers world wide because that means video games are making major difference in the world. So our question is… when will we see Deepmind take on the StarCraft WCS Champion in a Best of 3?!
Not only did Kel’thuzad enter the Nexus this past week, it was also revealed that there will be some changes coming to the way that Season 3 is Heroes of the Storm will work. One of the main points that we talked about on this episode was the changes to the Grandmaster rank not opening for the first two weeks of the season, which will result in the top tier of players to placed lower and have to have a battle to become the best. It’s an exciting change and it will be interesting to see if other games pick up the same rank structure or not.
We talked about the Hearthstone community being upset about the meta last week on the show, and this week Blizzard announces some major changes coming to the game in Patch 9.1. This includes changes to Innervate, Fiery War Axe, Hex, Murloc Warleader and Spreading Plague. But with that, the player base got a little upset with the Developer notes that were added about the changes to Fiery War Axe claiming it was calling them stupid, and Ben Brodes was quick to correct that perceived thought process. Changes were made to mana costs of cards instead of flavor text or what it does due to a massive amount of players having cards memorized. The mana changes make you have to look at the card instead of just clicking it and it preforming something different on your screen. But the community still isn’t happy? Have Hearthstone players replaced Overwatch players as the saltiest players in the Blizzard Universe?!
Ever since the Mei “Rise and Shine” animated short, we have been feeling a little frosty, and wanting more. And Blizzard must have knew we wanted it, so they delivered this past week by giving us a Behind the Scenes on the short and into their creative process when it comes to developing these videos we all love. Check it out!
But Blizzard wasn’t done there. They also released a brand new comic featuring our two favorite junkers: Junkrat and Roadhog! Check it out here.
But Blizzard isn’t the only group of people making awesome content outside of the game, this past week it was redditor Lucskywalker who created an awesome turn based RPG using Overwatch as it’s inspiration. It’s in its infancy, but it has some major potential! It makes us wonder what a Overwatch Trading Card Game would look like!
This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:
Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.
Game: Demon Hunters v 1.23 Type: Survival Creator: JeeSpot Kilroy’s Review: “This is a great top down survival map with heroes at the helm of exterminating a demonic threat and saving the day. This game was a challenge to do solo and took some time to get down the logistics of how to survive the demons level up and use your hero abilities to win the map by destroying beacons that were summoning demons. Once you defeat all beacons the game is won but the difficulty level increases as you move throughout the game. This is a fun addition to the blizzard arcade and is worth the playthrough but be sure to bring some friends because it makes this game even more fun.”
