Episode 207 – “Lore Overload”

Welcome to the Frozen Nerdz Podcast Episode 207 called “Lore Overload.” We are your Blizzard Entertainment discussion podcast. The show you are about to hear was recorded on Sunday, May 20th, 2018.

On this week’s show, we quickly go over our past week in video games before we move onto our Blizzard Entertainment discussion. This week we start off talking about Overwatch Contenders, and an upcoming Hearthstone cosplay competition. Then we talk about card changes coming to Hearthstone, could the next hero headed to the Nexus be Sombra, Overwatch hits 40 million players, Pink Mercy hits almost $10 million raised, and the Overwatch anniversary event is coming. Then we move onto talking about World of Warcraft. This week we talk about a Before the Storm preview, character limits increased, and BFA messing up the Lore…. again.

But no episode would be complete without us talking about a Blizzard Arcade game and this week we are talking about one called Gandalf! And then before you know it, it’s time for us to say our weekly goodbyes.

And then for our Patrons, we talk about Alternate Timelines in World of Warcraft, smurf accounts in Overwatch, and the Battle.net launcher.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns for the show, feel free to contact us via email at IceBox@FrozeNerdz.com. But without further ado, sit back relax and enjoy Episode 207of the Frozen Nerdz Podcast!

In the world of Overwatch, there is always something going on when it comes to esports! With the action just heating up in the Overwatch League and the talks of more teams being added to the roster. Within Overwatch Contenders, we have some awesome teams making waves down under in Sydney with the Drop Bears sweeping the league. Not only did they beat some of the best teams, they are also representing their country in the finals. To find out more about Overwatch Contenders, check out this article here!

It’s not everyday we hear about a new Cosplay Competition going on, and this time its coming from the Hearthstone Universe. So bust out your cardboard, scissors and watercolors and let the fun begin! This competition is only available for European listeners, but you will win an awesome Hearthstone cosplay prop, a paid trip to Gamescom and much much more! For more details, check out the announcement.

Just when the Hearthstone meta was starting to heat up, and the decks were starting to get set in stone, Blizzard decided it was time to shake up the meta a little by nerfing a few cards. Changes are being made to Naga Sea Witch, Spiteful Summoner, Possessed Lackey, Dark Pact, Call to Arms, and The Caverns Below. For more full details, you can either hear about it on the show or check out the main announcement.

With all the hype going on right now in the Nexus and adding lore, a lot of people are thinking that there is more going on behind the scenes instead of just the normal Blizzard media releases. People think that with the most recent HGC event, at the end of the overall broadcast there was some “static” that appeared on the screen that suggested that Sombra was hacking into the system. Is it another Sombra ARG, or just the community going crazy for content again? Find out more about this “event” here.

We’ve talked about it before, but it appears that Overwatch has increased to 40 million players world wide. And with the 2nd anniversary on it’s way, that’s an amazing feat to reach! The Anniversity event will bring back ALL previous events and skins. So now will be the time to play some Junerksteins Revenge, or Uprising Retribution some more. But with announcements, there are always leaks that happens. So if you want to check out all the new skins coming for this event, check out this article. If not, wait until Tuesday when the event goes live.

The chance to buy your own Pink Mercy Skin has passed, but that doesn’t mean the impact wasn’t reached. It was reported that almost $10 million was raised for Breast Cancer Research Foundation. It will be interesting to see how much was raised from T-shirt sales, Twitch donations and bit donations.

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) A preview of Before the Storm by Christie Golden.

2.) Per Realm Character Limit increased to 18

3.) Alternate Timelines coming in Battle for Azeroth

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Gandalf v0.2
Type:  Arena
Creator: Acaraco
Details: Who is da true Gandalf?
Kilroy’s Review: “This is a simple arena style map with one purpose to pick up the ring of power and become the one true Gandalf.  Using spells that will make themselves available as you play and kill your opponents you can play keep away while holding the Ring in hopes of making it to a cumulative 240 seconds.  The AI does not fight back so I wouldn’t recommend going it alone otherwise the game will be really boring.”

Episode 206 – “People Be Trippin'”

Welcome to the Frozen Nerdz Podcast Episode 206 called “People Be Trippin’.” We are your Blizzard Entertainment discussion podcast. The show you are about to hear was recorded on Sunday, May 13th, 2018.

On this week’s show, we go over our past week in video games before we move onto our Blizzard Entertainment discussion. This week we start off talking about BlizzCon ticket sales, the cost of more teams coming to Overwatch League, the history of StarCraft, balancing in Hearthstone, changes coming to heroes in Heroes of the Storm, and then we talk about the Pink Mercy charity skin and the controversy behind it. Then we move onto talking about World of Warcraft. This week we talk about the real life cost of WoW gold, changes coming to the PVP system, and another cheater going to jail.

But no episode would be complete without us talking about a Blizzard Arcade game and this week we are talking about one called Beast of the Hill! And then before you know it, it’s time for us to say our weekly goodbyes.

We also talk about our BlizzCon ticket experiences from this year, and our response to the Pink Mercy Skin in Overwatch.

Each and every week we scour news articles and Blue posts looking for this week’s Top 5 list! This week our Top 5 List comes from the Overwatch universe. We discovered a lot of salt pertaining to the Pink Mercy Charity Skin.

Top 5 Saltiest Charity Haters

5.) But locking this great and new skin behind a paywall is more than disgusting!
4.) That’s the first time I’ve seen a game ask for a minimum of a 15$ for a charity. Seems Blizz truely lives in a bubble.
3.) Too much money for Mercy; would have paid 15 for pink granny.
2.) whatever it’s for a good cause and all, but I don’t have $20 to drop on a card for Blizzard
1.) *To hear #1, listen to this week’s episode!*

The first two rounds of BlizzCon tickets went on sale, and within a total of 19 mins, all general admission tickets have been sold. But if you missed out on your shot to get tickets, there is still a chance to get the Benefit Dinner ticket when they go on sale Wednesday, May 16 at 7:00 p.m. PDT through Universe. These tickets do cost $750 per ticket, which includes a BlizzCon ticket, but all the proceeds raised will be donated to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County. If you are interested in the Benefit tickets, head here. If you want to see if there are any tickets available for purchase, keep checking out the LFBlizzCon.com page.

We’ve talked about the upcoming expansion of the Overwatch League, and now the math and the cost behind the scenes has come out. It appears that the first 12 teams that join the Overwatch League each paid in a total of $20 million USD to join. And future teams will be looking at the cost of $30-60 million USD to join the league. The price change comes as the interest in the league increases. The teams within the Overwatch League are valued at $120-160 million USD right now. So the chance for growth is there, but who is going to be shelling out the $30-60 million to join in the next season of the Overwatch League? Only time will tell. On this episode, we talk about a few different teams we wouldn’t mind seeing, and discuss the overall topic a lot more.

It’s not really StarCraft news per say, but it’s defiantly a good StarCraft related read. So if you want to learn more about the history of how the game became a game, check out this PC Gamer article today! It’s a solid read!

Currently in Hearthstone there are a lot of cards and decks that just seem to have a higher win rate than others, and because of that the community has been demanding more balance come to Hearthstone. But the Hearthstone team weighs in on this topic saying its a mix between feelings and metrics. Meaning that they only make adjustments if it feels right to the play style of the game, and it has to be supported by metrics to back the reasoning behind it. The example they say is that if a deck wins 65% of the time, it feels good for the person playing it, but not so much for the person playing against it. But instead of nerfing the winning deck, what about increasing the win rate of the losing deck. Because if people are always losing, they won’t keep playing. Who needs facts when you can just act on your feelings?!

This past week, we got two major announcements from the Heroes of the Storm team! And that means, some major reworks coming to both Diablo and Lunara. And some new skins of the two fo them. These reworks are going to be a more frequent thing coming out of the Heroes of the Storm team in order to balance the heroes in the game instead of always funneling new ones into the roster. And that’s definitely important. And it’s good to see that the Lord of Destruction was one of the first ones on their lists to get done.

And it has come and gone, and most of you didn’t even know it was happening this year. But the Heroes of the Dorm competition has crowded a new champion this past week in the Blizzard Arena. And this time around it wasn’t an American team that won the whole thing, but the Canadian University Laval that took home the scholarship money! To read more all about it, check out this article for recaps of that matches.

If you like new Mercy skins, and supporting a good cause, the Overwatch team has a deal for you! You can get the new Pink Mercy skin today for just $14.99 USD and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). You can also pick up the $30 limited edition Pink Mercy shirt on the Blizzard Gear store. And by watching up to 6 hours of select Overwatch streams on Twitch, you can also get some exclusive BCRF sprays for use inside the game.

But with a good thing, there is always going to be salt and controversy. And it appears that Sony is at the front of the lines this time because on their PlayStation store is shows that only a portion of the proceeds will be going to the BCRF/Blizzard.

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) WoW Gold worth more than the national currency of Venezuela
2.) Changes coming to WoW PVP ranks/rewards
3.) Arrested and receiving Jail Time for DDOSing WoW Servers.

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Beast of the Hill v1.0
Type: King of the Hill
Creator: Pinny
Details: “Beast of the hill is a free for all mod where you have to stand on the red dot at the center of the map to score points!  Be the last man standing or collect enough points to win!”
Kilroy’s Review: “Fun concept simple RTS style with a center king of the hill theme.  Overall a solid built map, it doesn’t take away too much from the original SC2 game but a good mod nonetheless.  The AI doesn’t attempt to sit in the dot but it does like to attack your base relentlessly which is basically the other win condition so I guess there is AI even if it isn’t created by the developer.”

On this week’s show, we go over our past week in video games before we move onto our Blizzard Entertainment discussion. This week we start off talking about Overwatch League sponsorships and championships. Then we move onto talking about a new set of StarCraft maps coming to rotation, Diablo gets an update on console, Noblegarden coming to Hearthstone, Heroes of the Storm introduces the Dark Nexus, and then we talk about hackers being punished in Overwatch. Then we move onto talking about World of Warcraft. This week we talk about a crazy live action Horde versus Alliance event, and a new developer interview about the story behind Battle for Azeroth.

But no episode would be complete without us talking about a Blizzard Arcade game and this week we are talking about one called Heaven Besieged Infinite! And then before you know it, it’s time for us to say our weekly goodbyes.

We also talk about our BlizzCon ticket experiences from years past, and our worse BlizzCon experiences on Frozen Nerdz After Dark!

We’ve talked about it before wondering when we’d start seeing teams get sponsored by larger organizations and the time is now! This past week it was announced that the best team in the Overwatch League, the Houston Outlaws,  will be taking on the first major sponsor as they are now signed with T-Mobile. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise since T-Mobile is a major sponsor of all Blizzard events, including the Overwatch League. But this is a big step for our favorite team, and a great direction for the Overwatch League and esports everywhere.

Also in Overwatch League news, this past weekend we had the Stage 3 playoffs and finals.n The four teams that advanced were the LA Valiant, LA Gladiators, Boston Uprising, and the New York Excel. After some major competition, the final two teams that were left standing was the undefeated Boston Uprising, and the New York Excel. But only one team could take home the $100,000 cash prize, and once again the New York Excel prove that they are still the number one team in the Overwatch League.

With Season 2 of 2018 upon us in StarCraft II, we have new exciting maps upon us! You will definitely want to check them out for yourself. Words can not describe the awesomeness of Dreamcatcher! Here’s a gallery of them all!

If you are like us and just clinging to the change to hear ANYTHING from the Diablo team, now is your chance to be excited and disappointed all at the same time! This past week it was announced that Diablo III for console (PS4/XboxOne/etc), are now up to date with the PC version of the game! This is great for console players, but saddening for Diablo fans everywhere wondering if this marks the end of the game as a whole, or are we just in a holding pattern until the next big thing happens?!

Just when you finally finished off your Easter candy, Hearthstone decides to bring back memories of regret and disappointment! It’s a Witchwood Curse we swear!!! But on May 9th to the 13th, we will be getting the Noble Garden Tavern Brawl which will give away TWO GOLDEN CARDS!!! Even if you don’t care about this cards, they quickly become dust and turned into new cards of your liking! So if you want to collect eggs and paint them, check out the Noblegarden event!

Epic talked about it on the Frozen Nerd Report, but we wanted to make sure everyone knew about the latest in the Nexus. This past week we got the Ravenlord Comic, the Dark Nexus event preview, and then a 7 minute developer insight into the Lore of the Nexus. Besides just getting Deckard Cain, it’s a good time to be in the Nexus collecting loot, destroying towers and enjoying the story!

It’s been a few weeks (Maybe even months!) since the last time we talked about Hackers and cheaters in Overwatch. But now we are finally getting some justice because the South Korean government is punishing 13 people in connection to hacking in Overwatch. One receiving jail time and being fined up to $10,000 USD for violating the user agreement from Blizzard. This is major steps in the right direction to cut down on the illegal activity, but when will we see something like this happen in the United States? Listen to the Nerdz discussion about just that and more on this week’s episode!

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) Live Action Horde versus Alliance in Czech forest.
2.) Developer interview with John Hight, World of Warcraft Production Director, about Battle for Azeroth.

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Heaven Besieged Infinite
Type: Strategy
Creator: keenan
Details: “Heaven must hold out with limited units until God arrives to help.  Hell must destroy the throne of heaven without losing their prime evils.”

Kilroy’s Review: “A cool concept if you play with a full group of humans,  there is no prebuilt AI to take control of the different portions of the game and so it is only you charging in to assault the enemies bases.  Which ultimately makes this game play like a simulation where how long can you throw X at Y before you win. Seems like a cool concept and probably a very solid strategy game.”

Episode 204 – “%$@#ing Personal Loot”

Welcome to the Frozen Nerdz Podcast Episode 204 called “%$@#ing Personal Loot.” We are your Blizzard Entertainment discussion podcast. The show you are about to hear was recorded on Sunday, April 29th, 2018.

On this week’s show, we go over our past week in video games before we move onto talking about recent changes to our Patreon and the introduction of the Frozen Nerdz After Dark podcast. With Overwatch League in full swing, viewers have started to notice a trend in the matches that has been taking place so far. It’s the same heroes on each team, and each team is running their own version of “Dive Comp.” Dive Comp is a super aggressive team make up that takes all of your fast moving heroes and throws them quickly at the first point on a map. And usually consists of the same heroes like, Genji, Tracer, Zenyatta, Mercy, Lucio, Dva, Winston, etc. And because of this, a lot of people have started to stop watching the Overwatch League due to the repetitiveness. On this weeks show, we discuss changes that can be made, or heroes that could be added to help prevent this same compensation of heroes.

Back at BlizzCon 2014, we sat down and talked with the Blizzard Arcade team and they discussed the possibility of premium content coming to the Arcade to benefit creators. And with the arrival of the StarCraft II Patch 4.3.0 notes, it appears that we already have two premium Blizzard Arcade games available for purchase for $4.99. And in a recent interview about the topic, it was stressed that the major of the money made will be going to creators. With it only being two games, it’s definitely a system that is being tested, and we hope of the sake of content creators within the Blizzard Arcade,  it’s here to stay. To check out the maps available for purchase, or to learn more about the new premium content, check out the official press release.

With the release of The Witchwood within Hearthstone, we didn’t expect to get anything more than a new expansion, but boy were we wrong! This past week, the Monster Hunts was released as a new set of dungeon crawlers within the game. Similar to those that came with Kobolds and Catacombs, you play a set boss, or in this case Monster, and play as one of four Monster Hunters. It’s a great way to test your Hearthstone skills, and to level up heroes you may not play very often. But don’t take our word for it, check it out for yourself today!

We have complained about her before, and we may be complaining about her more in the future. But thankfully Blizzard is taking a look at another major Symmetra rework coming. This time focusing on her lock on beam, her turrets, her ultimates, her teleporter, and her alternate fire. So basically everything! This comes as a great relief since she has become a problem for most in comp and quick play. But will her changes make her more violable or less? The only way to find out is to check her out for yourself when the changes go live on the PTR. Find out how the Nerdz felt by listening to this weeks episode!

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) The Battle For Azeroth Beta is now live! Make sure you are opt-ed in today so you can join us within the beta!
2.) The Latest Battle for Azeroth Developer Q&A Recap.

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Woof 1.7
Type: Hide and Seek
Creator: Samo
Kilroy’s Description: “Yikes, tried to queue alone, just a black map! I mean I want to play this game I want to love this game but I’m not sure how! I know the game is still in development so it has a chance to become a great game, as far as it stands you are either a dog or a zealot and the dogs have to hide from the zealots.”

This past week it was announced that Activision Blizzard has a deal with Nielsen, the global measurement and data analytics company,  to track and value esports brand investments. The company will begin tracking with Overwatch League, the Overwatch World Cup, and Overwatch Contenders this year, along with Activision’s Call of Duty World League. It is estimated that esports has an economy of $906 million this year with the majority of that revenue coming from Sponsors and Advertisers. Does this mean will see a rise in new sponsors for events? Find out more about this partnership and research here.

With everyone’s eyes on the Overwatch League right now, and gamers asking themselves everywhere how do they get into the Overwatch League, the answer is actually pretty easy, but the road is a little rough. It all starts with Overwatch Contenders, which is basically the Amateur/Minor League for Overwatch, and we have moved from regular play into our playoff season already. If you want to see the who may be moving over to the Overwatch League soon, check out the Overwatch Contenders today!

A lot of people have been talking about World of Warcraft esports for some time, and now we have the Mythic Dungeon Invitational upon us! Check out all the latest hot PVE action in the recent China and Asian Pacific regional weekends as we move into the European weekend this coming week. Which team will reign supreme?! Find out more here.

It’s a sad week for the Hearthstone team as well as the Blizzard Entertainment community as a whole. It was announced this week that Hamilton Chu, the Hearthstone’s Executive Producer, will be leaving the company. But unfortunately, he’s not the only person who’s leaving. The Hearthstone Game Director and elemental rapper Ben Brode also announced his departure from the team and Blizzard Entertainment. Brode was more of a community facing member of the team whereas Chu was more behind the scenes, but we have a feeling that both of them will be working together in the near future and something new and exciting is on the horizon. From both of us here at Frozen Nerdz, we wish them the best!

With Heroes of the Dorm in full effect, we put ourselves against each other to see which Nerd will be the best bracket picker in the land! Check out the official bracket here, Kilroy’s bracket here, and Epicinsanity’s bracket here.

Epic talked about it last week, and then this week it was revealed on the PTR that the map from Archives: Retribution will be a new escort map in Overwatch! The Rialto map is just in the basic stages of testing and appears to be overly unbalanced and favors snipers. But the map itself is beautiful and we are excited to see more of what it has in store on the PTR. Check out more about the latest patch here.

Normally, we would talk about the Overwatch League in our esports section, but this week we had more to talk about when it comes to the Dallas Fuel. It was announced this past week that the Fuel have let go of their coach KyKy, and their Korean DPS player Rascal. Players and coaches being replaced or let go isn’t anything new to esports, or sports in general. But the way that Rascal was let go has a lot of people in the community fired up about it so we figured it was best for us to weigh in on the discussion. In the press release the Dallas Fuel said, “We had hoped that Rascal could add flexibility to our DPS lineup on the team this season. Unfortunately, his commitment to the team did not meet our expectations and his unwillingness to communicate with the team while playing in recent matches became a large distraction.” Since Rascal is a Korean speaker player, and the rest of his team is English speaking, there are going to be communication issues. But instead of working on them, the Dallas Fuel decided to replace him. The LA Gladiator’s player Fissure weighed in on this topic on his “talk show.” To find out more about the Dallas Fuel Roster changes, check out the press release.

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) Early Looks at each of the major battles: LordaeronTeldrassil
2.) War Mode will be replacing PVP servers

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: The Walking Dead v0.11
Type:  Puzzle
Creator:  SoulScream
Details: “You must find the best option for victory.”
Kilroy’s Review: “Honestly the game was easy to cheese but there was a point where you will get stuck and will not be able to go any further the design idea is cool however the overall completeness of the game is still kind of a beta.  Fun still I had to play it 2 times once i found the healing pool that let you cheese the game.”
Epicinsanity’s Review: “Overall the game was a little rough, the concept was there. But since it’s a 12v12 game, without AI that assists, it was a little harder to understand and advance. It’s a survival game that is built with Warcraft III assists. The whole point of the game is to block off doors to prevent zombies (undead npc’s) from zerg rushing you. I got to play as Arthas, and there were some other warcraft related players in the mix. It appears to be a remake of Stratholme.”

Each and every week we scour news articles and Blue posts looking for this week’s Top 5 list! This week our Top 5 List comes from the <Insert Game Here> universe. We discovered a lot of salt pertaining to…: <Article/Topic Link here>

Top 5 Saltiest Warcraft Legendary Changes IN BFA

5.) That’s why I NEVER buy gear of any kind because it just becomes obsolete and useless when a new expansion comes along.
4.) I hope they don’t do this to the movement-increasing Legendaries. I’m going to be upset if I lose my Sentinel wisp boots. :C
3.) Looks like 115 twinks will be a thing
2.) 115 twink vs 120 normal player… and twink win xD
1.) *To hear #1, listen to this week’s episode!*

Looking for a new job? Have skills in the area of Policy, esports, and more? It appears that Blizzard is now hiring an esports policy associate who “will be tasked with evaluating and evolving Blizzard Entertainment’s Esports Policies. They will be coordinating the creation as well as the internal/external education of Blizzard’s Esports Policies.” So if you are interested in this job, or looking for a new career at Blizzard go check it out!

When Blizzard opened the Blizzard Arena in Burbank, CA, our first thought was…. there needs to be more of these in the United States. And someone in Texas must of heard our cries from the north, and they decided it was time to start working on a new one! Sitting between Dallas and Fort Worth, Arlington is a perfect location for an esports arena, and it appears we will be getting just that! The new arena will be able to fit  up to 1,000 spectators, VIP amenities and year-round event potential. Check out this article with a miss-leading headline.

And last but not least, this past week Blizzard announced….. BLIZZCON!!!!!!!! The event will once again be held in Anaheim, CA the first weekend in November, the 2nd-3rd, and general admission tickets go on sale on May 9th and 12th for $199, and the benefit tickets go on sale May 16th for $750. But don’t stress getting tickets too much, there are plenty of tickets that people will be wanting to sell later on, so just start planning your trip now! Check out all the BlizzCon details here!

Heroes of the Storm News Banner

The Heroes of the Storm team is always looking to improve different aspects of the game from MMR to toxicity to match queue time! And this week is no different, the Heroes team posted a list of things they are looking into and then opened up a Reddit AMA in order to give us MORE information about the topics at hand. If you want to read more about what was talked about, you can check it all out here.

The latest Hearthstone expansion is here, and the Witchwood is in full swing! If you haven’t yet, take some time to log into the game and get three free card packs, and a guaranteed legendary! There are also a lot of awesome new cards, and you will definately want to check out the new affixes of Echo and Rush! Find out more about the Witchwood here.

Overwatch News Banner

Shockingly enough, it was a rather quiet week on the Overwatch front! This past week the new Retribution event was released, and the archives got another mission to play within a PVE environment where players were able to check out one of the Blackwatch missions within the game. If you want to learn more about Blackwatch, McCree, Reaper, Moira, or Genji, there is no better time than now to check out the mission and collect those legendary loot boxes!

World of Warcraft News Banner

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) Hall of Fame achievements replacing previous realm first.
2.) Legion Legendary effects will be disabled at lvl 116
3.) More PAXeast interviews, and more BFA information!

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Kingdom Crush v0.9
Type: Board Game
Creator: JasonX
Details: “A turn based 4x strategy game, Heroes of the Land, Air, and Seas designed by Scott Almes and published by Gamelyn Games.  In this adaptation , you will choose from Blizzard’s Warcraft Franchise and defeat your opponents by achieving one of the various win conditions.”

Kilroy’s Review: “I personally enjoyed the board game look and feel to this game the layout was tile based and the object as far as I could tell was to create grunts to gain resources and upgrade before your opponent does plays like a turn based RTS with a chess like feel. Totally interesting and unique game but i would love for there to be a written tutorial or an in game one to assist in new players trying this out. Ultimately this was a fun game the developer has not created AI for it just yet but it does have enough of the core concepts down that this could be a great game.”

Welcome to the Frozen Nerdz Podcast Episode 201 called “Hanzo Got A Watch!” We are your Blizzard Entertainment discussion podcast. The show you are about to hear was recorded on Sunday, April 8th, 2018.

On this week’s show, we quickly go over our past week in video games before we move onto Blizzard Entertainment discussion. This week we talk about more drama in the Overwatch League, The Witchwood is coming, who and what is coming to the Nexus!?, Overwatch Archives, a new Overwatch comic released, and then we move onto our World of Warcraft discussion. This week we talk about the remote auction house being deactivated, the Battle for Azeroth release date announced, changes being made to the physical collector’s edition, and the BFA Press Tour!

But no episode would be complete without us talking about a Blizzard Arcade game and this week we are talking about one called Military Tournament! And then before you know it, it’s time for us to say our weekly goodbyes.

Here are a few ways you can do that!

Another week, and another Overwatch League player is being fined for something they did on their own personal stream. This time it’s EQO from the Philadelphia Fusion. He was fined by both the Overwatch League and the Fusion. And then the Fusion will match his fine and donate it to the Anti-Defamation League’s No Place for Hate Campaign. This is a good move on their part, but it’s still getting out of hand how many times we have to talk about this. He was fined, suspended for three weeks, and has lost his streaming rights until June.

But wait, there’s more….unfortunately. The Boston Uprising player Dreamkazper has been let go from the team for being sexually inappropriate with an underaged fan. When we recorded the show, we only just heard about this topic, but since then it has been released that he was let go from the team while the Overwatch League investigates everything that happened. At this point, if the Overwatch League doesn’t step in and do something, it will be just as bad as other professional sports, and we don’t need that. We use to ask, when is it going to be enough? Well, we have hit that limit, and something needs to be done and this needs to be addressed.

Heroes of the Storm News Banner

It has finally happened. We have been asking for four years, and it is finally upon us! Deckard Cain himself is coming to the Nexus! This past week at PAXeast, it was announced that the man, the myth, and the legend himself will be entering the Nexus as the next hero. He will be labeled as a support class, and will be throwing health potions to teammates, hitting people with the Horadric cube, “Stay awhile and listen” and hitting enemies with LORENADO!!!! You can check out his spotlight here.

But that wasn’t all we heard about at PAXeast, we found out that the Heroes of the Storm team is looking to add more story and lore into the game, and will be releasing a comic later this month introducing us to what is going on behind the scenes inside the Nexus. But we ask the question, is it needed to know more about the story of a game who’s characters are from other games? Listen to the show to find out more!

The Witchwood is coming! It was announced this past week that the next Hearthstone Expansion, the Witchwood, will be hitting live servers on April 12th. So you have until then to purchase your 70 card packs for $50, and much much more! So head over to the Hearthstone page to check out all of the cards that are coming!

Overwatch News Banner

We talked about it last week on the show, but the Overwatch team decided to take it one step further and they will be releasing Overwatch Archives on April 10th, 2018. The event will include the Uprising event from last year, but will also include the Retribution event featuring Blackwatch heroes. The event will run until April 30th, and will feature 160 new items including legendary skins for Hanzo, Moria, Mei, Winston, and more.

Check out the new Retribution comic here. And the overview video of the Retribution event here.

World of Warcraft News Banner

This week we discussion the following topics about World of Warcraft:

1.) The World of Warcraft Mobile Auction house is going away! The WoW Remote Auction House will be deactivated on April 18. 2018.
2.) Battle for Azeroth coming August 14th, 2018. Pre-Order a physical copy today! or a digital deluxe today!
3.) Collector’s Edition announced and revealed at PAXEast. Pre-Order a physical copy today.
4.)
Battle for Azeroth Press Tour: Hazelnuttygames Battle for Azeroth Dev InterviewTradechat’s Battle for Azeroth Dev Interview, and Wowhead’s Battle for Azeroth Dev Interview.
5.) Interviews about Battle for Azeroth at PAXeast!

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Military Tournament v0.42
Type:  Tug of War
Creator: Korvin Gump
In-Game Overview/Description: The new generation of tug of war games.3 races, each of them has 16 spawn unit types. 20 Buffs for units upgrades. Over 2000 achievements + Builder rewards. Ability to play with computer players which has random strategies.
Kilroy’s Review: This is a straight up tug of war game.  The developer has added a ton of different features to it which cause you to have to scramble to beat the AI as they navigate the in game systems flawlessly making it very hard to win against them if you aren’t familiar with the in game systems.  Once you get the hang of it, it isn’t so bad the overall goal is to win the most rounds and defeat your opponent.

Here are a few ways you can do that!

Each and every week we scour news articles and Blue posts looking for this week’s Top 5 list! This week our Top 5 List comes from the World of Warcraft universe. We discovered a lot of salt pertaining to the most recent Battle for Azeroth Q&A.

Top 5 BFA Q&A Salt

5.)”Alt friendly-ness will be the same as legion” PICK A MAIN BOIS, ALTS ARE DEAD AGAIN.
4.) Yet another useless, unproductive and damaging Q&A.
3.) Look at me. I wear a blazer over my Warcraft shirt. I’m professional. Don’t notice that I have the most punchable face at Blizzard.Coombs
2.) Maybe if they stopped with all the class changes every expansion. They could focus on actual content like heritage armor for current races.
1.) *To hear #1, listen to this week’s episode!*

Just last week we were talking about how marketing and the usage of the MLG assets seem to be unused. But this past week, Activision Blizzard announced that they acquired three new executives on their marketing team. The new hires have an extensive background in traditional sports marketing, and when asked they expressed their excitement about working in esports. Check out this article for more information.

Shockingly enough, it’s almost the end of March and we are just now starting to hear more about Heroes of the Dorm 2018. Normally it follows suit with the NCAA Basketball tournament, but this year the top 64 teams were just revealed this past Monday. So that means… the Bracket Challenge should be short to follow. And hopefully some awesome prizes are to follow! To find out more about the Heroes of the Dorm, check out this article.

Thanks to a listener email, we discovered early on in the week that there is more scandal in the StarCraft esports world, and this time it’s match fixing in StarCraft Remastered Tournaments. But we guess it stays true to the scandal that it’s happening in the original game again! But why does this keep happening? This week on the show we talk about how the prizes pool size, and the amount of gambling on matches in Korean has effected the esports.

Heroes of the Storm News Banner

Whelp, we were wrong once again. It’s not a Diablo hero coming to the Nexus, or a Demon from World of Warcraft. This time we are getting Fenix from StarCraft! Fenix is a protoss who has been placed inside a dragoon mech, and he has some new interesting ability that could quickly make other heroes show up on the scene again. Check out his hero spotlight today!

We almost got it! Last week we were speculating on what the next expansion of Hearthstone would be and thought it would be revealed at PAX East at the start of April. But Blizzard decided that was too far away, and went ahead and announced it this past week. Hearthstone: The Witchwood will be rolling out to servers in mid-April. And with it, it will be bringing two to action cards, as well as a chance to get your hands on 70…. yes…. 70 cardpacks for the $50! To find out more about the expansion, and the pre-purchase, check out the main blog!

Overwatch News Banner

During an interview this past week, Comiss Nate said they they are looking to expand the Overwatch League to 28 teams in the upcoming future! And they stressed that more of those teams will be international teams that focus on European and Asian markets (which is needed!). To hear more of the interview, check out this article!

We talked about Brigette over the past couple weeks, but she is officially going live in-game on live servers this week! Check out all her details here.

World of Warcraft News Banner

On this week’s podcast, we talk about the latest World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth live Q&A. And we talk about our thoughts about it as a whole, and we cover some of the important topics that will effect the community moving forward. You can check out the VOD here, and the recap here.

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Solemn Quest v1.1
Type: RPG
Creator: DuckyTheDuck
Details: A Sudden eclipse has engulfed the realm in darkness, corrupting and driving it’s residents mad.  Sensing a great threat, the elders of your clan order you on a quest to find and destroy the source of the curse.

Episode 197 – “Drama Alert!”

Welcome to the Frozen Nerdz Podcast Episode 197 called “Drama Alert!” We are your Blizzard Entertainment discussion podcast. The show you are about to hear was recorded on Sunday, March 11th, 2018.

On this week’s show, we quickly go over our past week in video games before we move onto Blizzard Entertainment discussion. This week we talk about a StarCraft II documentary, discipline action against four Overwatch League players, Epic goes on a rant about World of Warcraft esports and then we move onto our discussion about Heroes of the Storm adjusting their reporting system, Diablo could be Switching things up, Papa Jeff talks about Season 9 meta, and Overwatch drops the ban hammer on it’s moderators. Then we move onto our World of Warcraft discussion. This week we talk about World of Warcraft: Chronicles Volume 3 coming out, and our thoughts on downtime during expansions.

But no episode would be complete without us talking about a Blizzard Arcade game and this week we are talking about one called Dead Zone – Lost Hope! And then before you know it, it’s time for us to say our weekly goodbyes.

If you have any questions, comments or concerns for the show, feel free to contact us via email at IceBox@FrozeNerdz.com. But without further ado, sit back relax and enjoy Episode 197 of the Frozen Nerdz Podcast!

Each and every week we scour news articles and Blue posts looking for this week’s Top 5 list! This week our Top 5 List comes from the <Insert Game Here> universe. We discovered a lot of salt pertaining to…: <Article/Topic Link here>

Top 5 Saltiest

1.) *To hear #1, listen to this week’s episode!*

It’s been a busy week for Blizzard Entertainment esports! Not only did we have action from the Overwatch League and World of Warcraft esports, we also received word that the crew over at Filmrise will be making a documentary about the life two StarCraft II pro’s and their journey’s towards BlizzCon. It will be called “Gamechangers: Dreams of Blizzcon” and will be looking into the life of Mun “MMA” Song Wan  and Jang “MC” Min Chul. And they also hint that there will be the possibility of Blizzard releasing an Overwatch esports documentary in the near future.

We have talked about it way more times than anyone should have to, but the Overwatch League is back in the news this week and this time it’s not just one player who’s getting in trouble, it’s multiple. Three players, and one coach are getting hit with some disciplinary action based on things they have recent said outside of the Overwatch League on either social media, or on their personal streams. But the one that caught everyone’s eye was the suspension of xQc from the Dallas Fuel. And minutes before we sat down to record the episode, the Dallas Fuel announced the departure of xQc from their roster. We go into a lengthy discussion about everything on the show, but if you want to read the official announcements they can be found here.

And to wrap up our esports discussion, Epicinsantiy goes on a rant about the world of the World of Warcraft esports. From their lack of advertisement and promotion, to the lack of information on their website about the events. Epic asks the question, “how can we take WOW esports seriously, if Blizzard isn’t?” Find out more about the discussion by listening to this episode!

Heroes of the Storm News Banner

Heroes of the Storm has paved the report system in video games as we know it. They were first to implement the mute system for abusive chat, and helped clean up the community quiet a bit. But recently, it was made known that a popular Russian streamer was reporting his whole team after his team would lose. And Blizzard caught onto this action, and are re-writing their report system to prevent abuse from players like this. We’ve talked about similar things happening in Overwatch, but Heroes of the Storm seems to be the testing ground for new changes like this. Find out more about this issue here.

Who knew one simple Tweet could change the world as we know it… The Blizzard Entertainment Twitter account tweeted out “Good night” and played a 6 second video of Diablo III night light getting turned on and off, and the community immediately assumed that Diablo was coming to the Nintendo Switch. But wait… there’s more! The website Eurogamer claims to have proof from Blizzard saying it’s in the works, even though Blizzard themselves said no. The Community still insists its coming. Epic has a story about Diablo and switches. Check out the episode to hear about his demonic light switch experience.

Overwatch News Banner

This past week, Papa Jeff went to the forums to talk about the current Meta that players are experiencing in Season 9 of competitive play in Overwatch. He wanted to debunk the rumors that different heroes are played across the different ranks. And from the information he shared, it basically proves that ranks have very similar Top 10 heroes played. For example, Dva is the highest picked hero across all ranks followed closely by Mercy and Moria. But there are heroes like Junkrat and Reinhardt who drop off the list very quickly once they hit Platinum rank. And heroes like Zenyetta and Tracer only show up in high competitive ranks, which has something to do with the fact that they are two higher skill capped players. What do you think about this kind of data?

We would be doing the community a disservice if we didn’t address the issue going on right now with one of the previous Overwatch League Twitch chat moderators. We talk about the topic in depth on the podcast. But if you want to know exactly what is going on, check out the source article on the topic from CodeHitchHiker aka Cher Scarlett called, “Half a million people have seen me naked.” In the article, she talks about how this Overwatch mod re-posted nude images of her online without her permission. From both of us here at Frozen Nerdz, there is a special place in hell for people do this type of thing. And the male in question deserves to lose more than just his career of such actions. This type of behavior is NOT “boys will be boys,” it is 110% not acceptable. And we don’t mention his name, because he doesn’t need anymore attention on this topic. But revenge porn needs to be stopped, and Cher has a White House petition started to do just that. Check it out here.

World of Warcraft News Banner

With the Battle for Azeroth Alpha in full swing, it’s definitely another slow news week for World of Warcraft, so this week on the show we talk about the upcoming release of the World of Warcraft Chronicles Vol. 3. Interested in pre-ordered your copy that releases on March 27th, 2018, use our Amazon Affiliate link here!

So what is there to do in World of Warcraft right now? *Crickets* *Crickets* There doesn’t seem to be much to do right now, but on this week’s show, we talk about a bunch of different options that Blizzard really should consider in order to prevent content draught like this again. Warlords of Draenor was bad, but is Legion during into WOD 2.0? Find out more from our discussion!

Each week we pick a game from the endless library of the Blizzard Arcade to test them out and help the listeners find some awesome stupidly fun games.

Game: Dead Zone – Hope Lost v 1.4
Type: Survival
Creator: Apocrypha
Game Overview: Dead Zone – Hope Lost is described as a dense horror atmosphere unlike anything else seen in Starcraft 2 thanks to a large amount of custom assets, environmental systems and intricate sound design.”

Epic’s Review: “This game takes the cake on game design. Not only does it have voice acting, while playing the game I completely forgot I was playing StarCraft. It’s a top down horror game in an apocalyptic world where you have to savage, pick locks, do melee combat, protect your direwolf and try to survive, all whole in a dark in environment. I’m not sure that in our 4 years of playing the Blizzard Arcade we’ve ever found a game like this. Graphically, audibly, etc.”

Kilroy’s Review: “Holy crap, this game starts out with a huge cutscene sequence where it describes the story of a colony falling to a virus.  From there the game loads in and you are taught a new subset of controls and manual fighting efforts. This is an example of the Starcraft Arcade engine being pushed to its limits in modification and design.  The developer of this game put a ton of time into adjusting the lighting and weather, they have input a lock picking system that requires you to remember complex sequences to pick locks on car trunks just to get at some equipment or useful items that may help in your mission to survive.  The zombie AI is aggressive and will seek you out keeping you on your toes in this very expansive game. Great find and a totally awesome game overall.”
